Tagging has become part of the landscape of social networking tools. Tagging content helps you organize your information to suit your needs. You choose the terms and identify your information in a way that makes sense to you. In Delicious tags are separated by spaces. Popular tags and tags you have already used are sited by Delicious in the tag window each time you tag a site.
There are advantages and disadvantages to tagging.
Advantage
When users define their own content collective terms can be use such as Conference and event titles. Such collections are know as folksonomies...as they are developed and agreed to by a group.
Disadvantage
The variety of terms to describe the same item can make locating information difficult.
